INTERNALIZATION OF RELIGIOUS MODERATION VALUES IN STRENGTHENING RELIGIOUS CHARACTER AT MTs DARUL ULUM NGABAR JETIS MOJOKERTO
Abstract
While Islam promotes global peace, its radicalism and sectarianism have tarnished its reputation. Here, in the context of humanitarian social interaction, a universal philosophy builds the foundation for religious moderation and its values. As a school, MTs. Darul Ulum Ngabar is in a unique position to instill the ideals of religious moderation to its students through curriculum and extracurricular offerings. Interviews, participant observation, and recording were the qualitative data collection strategies used in this study. Using descriptive analysis, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and data verification, this study explores the data in the field. The results of this study are: First, the principles of religious moderation held by MTs Darul Ulum Ngabar are based on the principles held by the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia. These principles include: 1) national commitment; 2) tolerance; 3) non-violence; and 4) embracing local culture. Second, MTs Darul Ulum Ngabar has four approaches to help its students internalize the principles of religious moderation: (1) extracurricular activities, such as incorporating Aqidah akhlak lessons into the curriculum, habituation activities of MTs Darul Ulum Ngabar include things such as Monday Thursday fasting and istighosah and Dhuha Prayers, reading Asmaul Husna, dhikr, and solawat before lessons begin, celebrating Islamic holidays, enforcing madrasah rules (3) scouting activities and other extracurricular activities, Third, there are three things that result from the internalization of religious moderation values at MTs Darul Ulum Ngabar, namely: First, a strong understanding of the concept of religious moderation (cognitive aspect), second, a strong sense of morality (affective aspect), and third, the development of attitudes and behaviors that are nationalist, tolerant, non-violent, and accommodating to culture (psychomotor aspect).
